About Joanna
Dr Joanna Ting Wai Chu is a Research Fellow at the National Institute for Health Innovation (NIHI) in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and CAST. She holds postgraduate qualifications in psychology and earned her Ph.D from the University of Auckland. She is a recipient of a Heart Foundation Fellowship. Her previous post-doctoral research at the School of Public Health, University of Hong Kong, led her to contribute to a number of community-based projects aimed at building community capacity and improving family-related outcomes. Joanna has worked with government agencies, non-profit-organizations, schools, and co-developed practical and innovative programmes for social equity. Her current work aims to address health inequities in New Zealand and is guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Passions
Joanna is passionate about child and adolescent well-being. She also practices Chinese calligraphy and flower arrangement and loves lego building with her daughter Isa. Travelling with Isa to Lake Wanaka is one of her favourite memories.
